(applications are closed.)
opening october 8th at 00:01 GMT-8.
closing october 14th at 23:59 GMT-8.

SO, you've read the F.A.Q., the rules, checked that the character you're interested in is free and not reserved, and now you're ready to apply? Great! We're ready to accept you! The application description is below, and the form is ready for your copypasta convenience just underneath it! Please submit all applications in comments to this post with the subject "chara name | series". Have a seat, and drink some tea. We'll get right to you!

At this time, we do NOT allow application challenges. Sorry about that! It's all first-come, first-serve. You can apply for TWO (2) characters per round, with a maximum of SIX (6) characters allowed altogether.

RESERVES are not necessary. We run on a first-come, first-served system, but if you reserve your place is guaranteed for apps.

REQUESTS will always be as clear as possible on what we believe was lacking and expect to see written into the application, but feel free to ask for clarification and we'll reply as soon as possible. You have seventy-two (72) hours to revise, or your application will be revoked. Although you're more than welcome to ask for an extension if for some reason you're unable to complete in time, within reason.

REJECTIONS will also have clearly-stated reasons, and you'll be more than welcome to re-apply next month. However, we ask that if you're rejected three times in a row, you please try your hand at another character.

WHEN ACCEPTED, please read and follow the directions in the welcome copypasta closely! We don't ask for a terrible amount, but we do note that some things are mandatory for the game and it helps greatly with organization!

DID YOU PLAY IN HOLYRELIC BEFORE? We have a special rule for that! If you're repicking a character you had in HR before we closed previously, we're upholding our promise that your character can come back with their memories, THREE (3) event items of your choosing, and half of their levels. (I.E: Gauche was level 42 thereabouts, he'll be 21 to start.) Just comment to the apps with an updated player/character section to reclaim! No need for samples. :)

Applications can be screened for privacy after they've been judged, so please add a note if you'd like it screened.

CHARACTER NAME: Your character's name.
SERIES: The series your character is from; anime, manga, book, television, video game, you name it! Just give us a link.
CANON POINT: The point in time that your character is being applied from.
APPEARANCE: A link to an image, and/or an optional description if there's anything not covered in the image.
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: The class you'd like your character to be! We ask that you follow any canon inclination towards fighting types and state what they were previously, but if your character is someone that has never held a sword before, never took karate, and comes from a regular world with no magic, please provide a brief reasoning as to why you've picked what class you did!
PREVIOUSLY IN HOLYRELIC: ONLY FOR PLAYERS FROM HR'S LAST INCARNATION! Please note what their halved level will be and the three event items you'd like to keep. :) (if this doesn't apply to you-- 98% of you-- just remove this line. ♥)

PERSONALITY: Your character's personality; this needs to be written by you, though! We'd like at least two solid paragraphs, although three would be great!

samples.
FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE: A first-person sample-- or a journal/action post-- in the game's context. Anything you might use as a post in the game would be just fine here, but you don't need to use what you put in your application as your first post! Please do keep in mind that while journal posts are more natural to write for samples, we have no network in The World-- everything is face to face. All entries to the main community will be action posts! :)

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE: A third-person sample-- or log style-- that accurately displays your character's personality and motivations. Setting doesn't matter! We just ask that you please not write a sample about your character first arriving, because it greatly limits their usual personality and reactions. We aren't too particular about length but please write at least two or three paragraphs so we have something to work with! Also, if you've previously been accepted with another character and you're currently in the game, you do NOT need to write a third-person sample!

character.
CHARACTER NAME: Davesprite
SERIES: Homestuck
CANON POINT: While playing the Ghost Busters II MMO after Intermission 2
APPEARANCE: Mr. Orange Creamsicle
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Blade Brandier

Davesprite's weapon of choice is naturally the sword because it's what his Bro trained him to use. He's also pretty fast, and prefers being free to move. It's also within his personality to defend the people he cares about.

PERSONALITY: The best place to start is his similarities with Alpha Dave. First, being cool and ironic is a huge thing. He thinks he's the coolest person around. Really, he's kind of a huge dork. Davesprite idolizes his older brother because, to him, his brother is the coolest person on the planet, and also the strongest. He's taught to not show much in the way of emotion, but sometimes it slips, such as when he accidentally kills a crow at his apartment. No one must ever know. Davesprite's also pretty laid-back, taking things at his own pace. Like Dave, it can be hard to tell whether he's being sincere or being ironic. He also has about as good of a memory as him, which is to say that he's sometimes pretty shitty at remembering things (once Alpha Dave forgot he could even time travel). One final similarity is his determination to protect his friends, willingly going back in time to ultimately erase his timeline from ever happening to save them.

Alright, let's get down to the differences. It needs to be established that due to time shenanigans, Davesprite is technically four months older than Dave. That's because he needed to learn as much as he could about Sburb and practice with his Timey Wimey Stuff before going back in time to prevent his timeline from ever happening. He cares a great deal about his friends, since even though his timeline will cease to exist, Jade and John will still be alive. After gaining access to the knowledge Sprites get, he's supposed to be cagey about whatever info he gives to Dave, but he says he "doesnt feel like it."

Davesprite is also more bitter than Dave is. This is mostly seen during his conversation with the Rose from his timeline. However, it's also been seen subtly based on word choices in the alpha time. Really, it's not hard to see why he is. His best friend got murdered, in turn killing his other best friend, and when he saves him John seems to see him as "other Dave." Not to mention the only other person from his timeline, Rose, doesn't quite remember much of it, and is metaphorically dead to him. Adding insult to injury, when Davesprite goes to help Bro out with a fight with Jack Noir, it ultimately fails with Bro dead and himself severely injured.

This leads into another difference with his alpha self. His identity, perhaps the only thing from his timeline that he has left. He appears to tolerate being called Davesprite. However, he doesn't like being called "other Dave." He may well hate it. Davesprite has given John a small piece of his mind for calling him this, and to the reader would have appeared greatly upset by it.

FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE:

[Man oh man, it's one thing to be playing a MMO. It's another thing entirely to actually be part of one. Again.

On the other hand, Davesprite has his everything from the waist down back to something more human. That is definitely an improvement. And he gets bonus wings, so now it's like he's some sort of weird angel with orange feathers.]

I had to have died. That's the only fuckin' possibility. I somehow died while playin' that shitty Ghostbusters game and went to steampunk heaven.

[He sighs and shrugs. There's not much he can do about it if that's the case. The best thing he can do is get some information. That there are even people around after a year of only seeing two godly humans is…pitiful, to say the least. He's happy to have a break from salamanders and nakodiles and other sprites and shit.

Wow Davesprite's getting really sidetracked over here. He's just…gonna go walk up to a person.]

Sup. Where do I sign up as God's personal secretary? Obviously, it's my new role in existence if I've got fuckin' angel wings outta my back like a kid who got spliced with goddamn bird genes as a baby.

character.
CHARACTER NAME: Roberto
SERIES: Suikoden Tierkreis
CANON POINT: Following Dirk’s death, before going to Rarohenga.
APPEARANCE: Here
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Blade Brandier—Roberto favours the black blades that the Blades of Night’s Veil use; they are katana-like in appearance and are one-handed.

PERSONALITY: Roberto, first off, may appear as terse and often sharp-tongued with other people, even if he sometimes doesn’t mean to come across that way. It’s just his general demeanour. He’s straightforward to a fault and often thick-headed when it comes to how people may react to what he’s going to say, not taking into consideration things before they come out of his mouth. As a result, it leads to him being scolded or reprimanded by either Meruvis or Chrodechild, the latter of whom he greatly idolises. A lot of the time, he appears short-tempered and agitated, and seems to take many things quite seriously even where he probably shouldn’t.

It likely stems from the events that brought about the Blades of Night’s Veil.

That is, the Order of the One True Way took over Astrasia. At that time, Roberto wasn’t a knight (merely a vassal to another one) and couldn’t fight for his kingdom and, driven by frustration at his inability to act and protect what was important to him, became very serious in order to train and become a member of the Blades of Night’s Veil. And he did; he was the youngest to become one, besides Chrodechild herself. This seriousness has carried on, part of his character, as well as his loyalty to Chrodechild, the other Blades, and to his homeland.

He’s a very proud person, not quick to apologise or thank others. He’s proud of himself, of what he’s accomplished with his own strength and whom and what he fights for. If anyone says anything bad about Astrasia, the Blades of Night’s Veil or Chrodechild, well, they have Roberto to answer for. He’s bordering on arrogant, yes, and should he view someone as below him he will sometimes talk down to them, at least until he gets to know them and can warm up a bit. Such as in the case when he first met Sieg, scornful of his not knowing Chrodechild was a princess and even calling him and his company (numerous times) hayseeds.

He will be polite to those of higher rank and whom he has a respect for—such as Chrodechild, Fredegund or other members of the Blades or people from Astrasia. However, his respect is not easily given. Even though Sieg is the leader of his company, Roberto doesn’t give him respect until later on, until the other boy shows initiative and his strength in helping them and others. It takes a while to earn his respect, but once someone has it, Roberto’s loyalty and strength will be on their side without fail. There is little that he won’t do for those people whom he cares for, even though he isn’t the best at showing he cares.

He’s quickly brought to anger or exasperation and will often take people too seriously. He’s is also prone to being very defensive and snapping out of embarrassment at being caught not being honest about how he really feels. It also doesn’t help that he’s no good at hiding it—he’ll say one thing, and his expression will show something completely different. Like his saying there was no choice for them but to join the company, and then it getting pointed out that he looked pretty happy about it. He’s always quick to try and deny such things, even though he usually can’t as well as he’d probably like.

Roberto doesn’t think much of the time before he goes rushing into things, and can land himself in unfavourable situations. He doesn’t make as good of a leader because of this, even though he does aspire to be more like Chrodechild (and later Sieg). He doesn’t realise, for instance, that Danash is attempting to manipulate the Blades and Sieg’s company into competing with one another until after he’s already lashed out at Sieg. Though, he does eventually come to realise and complains about this to himself, disappointed that he was the one fooled while Sieg was not. His emotions can be a weakness for him, as they can be manipulated and guide him, in the same such a way as they are a strength to drive him toward his goals.

Not to say that he’s entirely temperamental most of the time. He is perfectly capable of acting level-headed in situations and even expressing his gratitude to others. (But it doesn’t help when people like Sieg say he’s acting weird when he’s being so sincere.) He also has a strong sense of justice and honour, to the point of wanting to go and defend the Furious Roar from Order attacks after they’d reclaimed Pharamond solely because he’d never had a chance to apologise to Cougar to how he’d acted.

FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE:

[The vrr of the device in his hand is entirely unfamiliar and Roberto glowers down at it, and similarly glowers at the Chaos Gate before him. His sword is missing, his other possessions as well, not even to mention his armour and no matter how he looks about he can’t find them.

Touch me the device reads.]

Yeah, right. [Roberto scoffs and shoves it back into a pocket. He shifts uncomfortably, feeling exposed in the clothes that are entirely unfamiliar to him. Where is he? Did he sleepwalk into another world or something? He couldn’t remember, and he didn’t know why his clothes were changed.

He scowls and turns to survey the area. He can see people coming and going. Fine. He’ll just seek out answers for himself. With quick, precise steps he makes his way outside, outside where there are more people. His eyes scan over them. Then,]
Hey, you! I’ve got something to ask you! [Courtesy? What’s that?]

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:
The field area stretched out before him, sky dyed by the orange hues of sunset. But Roberto wasn’t paying attention to the beauty, how scenic the landscape was or otherwise. No, what he was concentrating on was the slice of his sword through the monster before him. Satisfaction swelled up deep in his chest and he sheathed his weapon with a brisk jerk of his hand, his chin tilted up proudly. A breeze ruffled at his hair and carried smells to him as he took a moment to let tense muscles relax.

—still, though. He wasn’t strong enough yet to access his own weapons, his armour and his possessions. And that made his hand grip tighter around the hilt of the sheathed sword, his expression growing stormy as he walked, ground crunching under his feet. It reminded him of Astrasia, when they’d been driven out. The situation more than the place he was in, of course. The frustration he’d felt, trying to train and earn his place among the Blades of Night’s Veil. He’d been weak then, little more than the hayseed he thought Sieg was when he’d first met him.

“Hmpth.” His nose wrinkled. He was comparing himself to Sieg… Oh, how the mighty ones fall.

He was thrust right into that position of trying to fight, to become stronger, aspiring to grasp something still beyond his reach with a discomfiting desperation and a feeling of being completely out of his element. He didn’t get this place yet, he didn’t understand it, but if he had to get up to a certain level or whatever he’d train until he got there. He had to. His pride wouldn’t allow him to do anything less. No matter if Chrodechild or Meruvis weren’t here! He would uphold the honour of the Blades of Night’s Veil and of the kingdom of Astrasia until he saw them once more.

character.
CHARACTER NAME: Aradia Megido
SERIES: MSPA: Homestuck
CANON POINT: Act 6, Intermission 1
APPEARANCE: boop

DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Macabre Dancer. Aradia's canon powers are more 'status-based' - freezing time, etc - and Macabre Dancer is the only class that has any - naturally learned - spells that have an effect on time. I think she's better as a magic class than a straightforward attack class, simply because we haven't seen her perform a physical attack in canon. In addition, her character's fascination and relationship with death make the class name appropriate.

PREVIOUSLY IN HOLYRELIC: N/A

PERSONALITY: When we first meet Aradia, she's a downer, to say the least. She hears the voices of the dead constantly, and there's no spark to her at all - she's flat, and only says a few words at a time, if any. She's fatalistic and resigned to pessimism; the voices in her head remind her of the impending apocalypse, and she spends all her time focused on that. People say she used to be pleasant, before a certain accident, but now? There's no trace of it. Before the accident, Aradia loved archaeology and live-action role-playing, even complimenting others on their sense of fun. She was adventurous, and seemed to have a bit of an obsession with Troll Indiana Jones. She spent a lot of time exploring, but that stopped after her accident. She's a shell of her former self.

The only thing that seems to bring her any joy is breaking things - presumably to see that they aren't empty inside. She's obsessed with time streams and temporal anomalies. This might be related to her role as the Maid of Time, but there's no confirmation of this. She does things 'because they have to happen', not because she wants to do them. At this point, it seems her entire purpose is to create time loops and make sure they're sustained. She doesn't interact with anyone, and they seem happy not to have to interact with her.

There's one exception to this, and it's when Equius puts Aradia's soul into a robot body. In this body, she's violent and prone to extreme mood swings. Instead of the fatalistic 'im 0k with everything' attitude, she flips, explaining she is not okay with being bossed around. She all but kills Vriska in this state, and when she finds out Equius installed a chip in her to make her fall for him? She flips out even harder, tearing out the chip, destroying it, and then - in a fit of madness - kisses him. Karkat calls her a 'tin can psychopath', and it's not far from the truth.

However, after Derse is destroyed, and Aradia awakens from the dead as a God Tier, she's almost a completely different person, going back to her personality before the accident. She smiles - and smiles often. She's quoted as saying "I am very much alive, and I plan to stay that way." She's more cheerful than we ever see her. She's still obsessed with time anomalies and preventing slips in the alpha timeline, but instead of looking only for death, she sees hope. Not to say she isn't still rather odd. It's not exactly normal to celebrate death by throwing 'corpse parties', after all.

samples.
FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE:

[Aradia smiles into the camera as the feed clicks on. She didn't smile nearly so much before, but now? She looks pretty happy.]

So, a new quest just opened up, and it looks pretty interesting. Needs three people to find some relics buried in an underground dungeon. I'll handle buffing and healing, but I need a couple of damage dealers. Anyone interested? The rewards are pretty nice.

If so, shoot me a mail or something.

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE: (if you're already actively playing a character in HR, you don't need to do this section! but surprise us with your creativity and put something here anyway~?)

As much as Aradia liked doing quests with others, there was still something exciting about plugging in completely random Area Words on her own and seeing what came out of it. Sometimes, the fields were plain. She didn't mind the temple fields as much, but Aradia's favorites were the underground dungeons. There was just something exciting about needing to navigate using only her wits and her instincts, without anyone else. No one to nag her about the objective, no one to bug her about wasting too much time. Just herself, her thoughts, and the sounds of the dungeon.

It had taken her a few tries to find this particular one, but she'd quickly decided it was a favorite. Lots of waterfalls, a map that wasn't straightforward (it seemed to change every time she went in), and the loot wasn't bad. A girl had to make a living, and peddling steam guns and broadswords to passers-by wasn't a bad way to do it. Aradia didn't get a lot of time to think about that before she spotted a group of monsters to her left. She grinned, drawing her fans. She wouldn't admit it to anyone else, but in her opinion? The fans made the class.

A first attack - magic, of course - and it was once more into the fray.

character.
CHARACTER NAME: Toph Beifong
SERIES: Avatar: The Last Airbender
CANON POINT: After Zuko and Aang learn Firebending from the dragons
APPEARANCE: Before third season, During most of third season
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Tribal Grappler

As an Earthbender, Toph uses her hands and feet more often than not to bend the earth. However, of the group, she is one of the more physical fighters. Where Aang, Sokka, and Katara may be more prone to attacking at a distance, Toph prefers to be up front and in the thick of it. She can use the earth or even metal as a shield for her body, and completely pummel the crap out of people.

PERSONALITY: Toph is blunt and sarcastic upon first impression. She has no problem with telling the truth as bluntly as possible, but she's also a decent liar and actor, which is seen when she tells the group that her father allowed her to join them, yet in actuality he didn't. They think Toph is telling the truth, though, and they didn't ask about it, so it's all good. Toph is also highly independent, which clashes with the group at first, but since then she has learned the importance of teamwork. She hates it when people try to "baby" her just on account of being a young, blind girl.

She's rude and crude, and proud of it. Though she does know the proper manners as befits her noble family, as seen when Team Avatar tries to infiltrate the Earth King's party to actually talk to him, Toph actively chooses to ignore it. She loves living free from rules, especially those that prevent her from being herself. As a result, she doesn't like big cities very much. Much like the element of earth, Toph is stubborn almost to a fault. She has some flexibility, but once she sets her mind on something, she will darn well try to get it. For example, in one episode she uses her Earthbending to cheat at gambling, even though Katara keeps telling her that it's not safe to do this in the Fire Nation.

There are two things about her personality that may seem surprising. First is that deep down, she does care somewhat about her appearance. Normally, she doesn't care at all, which is seen often during their travels. Yet, when Katara takes her to the spa and gets prettied up, a few girls make some terribly sarcastic comments about how Toph looks. She's visibly upset by this, but Katara is able to lift her spirits a little by telling her she really is a pretty girl. Deep down, Toph does want to be complimented about her looks, just like everyone else.

Another thing is her fear of actually being blind. She uses the earth to see where she is, and sand makes it harder to see. It's like it makes her nearsighted, and we see this in the episodes of the group trying to escape the desert. Yet, when Katara makes a bridge of ice during the Serpent's Pass episode, she's very reluctant to go across the ice. This is because she can't see when her feet are on the ice as it's part of the water element. Really, it doesn't help that she can't swim, either. Toph likes her feet rooted to the earth, thank you very much.

samples.
FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE:

[At first, Toph just freezes where she is. Everything has drastically changed. She not only feels this, but she can hear it, too. There are more people around, the earth isn't the same as the Temple her friends were staying at.

A market place, maybe? But how did she get here? Toph frowns, not at all amused by this turn of events. Sheesh, they finally get somewhere with the whole Firebending training thing, and now this happens?

Never a dull moment for a member of Team Avatar.

Toph feels off, though. The girl frowns, and tries to Earthbend something. It doesn't work, and it's not only frustrating, but worrisome. Great, now how is she going to fight? She still has her Seismic Sense, so not all of her bending is gone, but….

She needs information, that much is a given. Toph just hopes that she's in somewhat friendly territory.]

Hey! [To make sure they know she's talking to them, she reaches out to tap their arm or shoulder, but the latter may be harder to do since she's pretty short for a 12-year-old.] Yeah, you, the person I've got a hold of. Do you mind telling me where I am and how the heck I got here?

Oh, yeah, and before I completely forget, why isn't my Earthbending working? Seriously, what kind of place doesn't allow bending?

[Such a sweet little girl, isn't she?]

CHARACTER NAME: Asad
SERIES: Suikoden Tierkreis
CANON POINT: Post-game
APPEARANCE: Character Design Art
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Macabre Dancer. Simply put, even in his actual profession as an Ardent Crusader, his skills were mostly buffs for himself and his party, with two magic spells and one healing spell. The rest are either attack/defense boosts or moves that allow them to give an attack with 100% accuracy. Also it helps that he practically passes off as one, looks-wise.

PERSONALITY: If there was one way of describing Asad, it’s that he is a man who is very true to his heart. As a soldier, Asad is very formal and serious in his work, dedicated in the betterment of his peers and the people he protects, as well as anyone else who may need his service. He’s someone who will be true to his word no matter what, making him a trustworthy and reliable ally. This makes it easier for Sieg and company to agree with allying themselves with the Magedom despite having met him only briefly, with the condition of letting them meet his leader so they would know who it is they are working with. While he would prefer to have as many allies as possible, he isn’t one who will force anyone against their will, as he understands suspicion just as well as anyone else. He is very loyal to the Magedom, fighting for it even during the times when he questioned some of their actions.

However, that doesn’t mean that he will turn a blind eye when it is obvious there is injustice to be had. In fact, his moral compass is so strong that if he will retaliate if someone oversteps their boundaries. This happens with Danash, especially when he finds out that he wanted to take Chrodechild as his bride against her will by holding the Blades hostage, prompting him into charging in to save her. While he is very much aware of hierarchy and would normally listen to his superiors without question, he will never let something that he believes is wrong go by without reacting. That doesn’t mean that he will jump at every sign of injustice. He’s the type to think it over first, analyze it as well as he can and take in the opinions of his peers before he makes a decision, preferring to make sure that he has his facts straight before he acts. This makes him rather insightful, as it shows that he isn’t someone who takes the possible consequences of his actions lightly.

When he swears his loyalty to someone, he will make sure to do the best he can for them. He has such an honest personality that it’s easy for his own soldiers to trust him, going so far as to defect with him from the Magedom later on despite him wanting them to stay behind for their sake. He doesn’t like burdening others with his decisions, preferring to take the responsibility on his own if he could help it. In fact, sometimes he tends to take too much responsibility for the bad things that happen, prompting others to tell him otherwise. However, this doesn’t mean he will refuse others who share his ideals, and if they show that they really want it, he will relent easily to their whims. This happens with Hafin, who wanted to join him badly despite agreeing to stay behind at first, as he is still a soldier who is most loyal to Asad.

Asad is also a person who cares deeply for his friends and his men, going so far as requesting leave from the Company temporarily to help Nakil in his time of need despite having already defected from the Magedom. This ends up with Nakil joining the Company with Asad in the end. Speaking of caring, Asad also has a huge crush on Chrodechild, though he will always openly deny this if anyone points it out. It’s so pathetically obvious that people like Roberto and Liu could tell it immediately, making Robert hostile towards Asad often in case he tries to make a move on Chrodechild. Not that he ever does, though he does tend to get more passionate about things when it comes to her, including rescuing (or failing to, as Chrodechild rescued herself) her from Danash. While he may be nice and friendly, he can get very vicious towards people who hurt those he care about, making him a difficult opponent to deal with when he’s angry.

Outside of duties, he can be very polite and formal, which is also present in his manner of speech. He gets easily flustered by others, and is pretty bad at defending himself in his protests when others point out things he finds hard to deny, like the way he tricked the guards by saying that Chrodechild had agreed to marry Danash so he can help the Blades escape, or when they point out his obvious crush on Chrodechild. This makes it difficult for him to quip back when people gang up on him, and sometimes he ends up disappointed in himself when that happens. He can also end up embarrassing himself unintentionally, especially in his eagerness, just like in the side-comics of the Character Guide Scans, where he accidentally fell into a ditch while trying to impress Chrodechild-- who hadn't been paying attention. He can also be dense sometimes, though not in the same manner as Sieg (who is pretty oblivious to a lot of things), especially when it comes to things about himself, which is probably one of the reasons Nakil and Hafin watch over him.

FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE: [The feed starts with the 'Tak tak tak' as the communicator drops to the ground in Asad's haste. He pauses in his steps long enough to notice though, backtracking in order to pick it up.] I suppose losing this now isn't going to help much.

[A frown as he holds onto it, clearly distressed, and unaware that the feed has begun.] I should have been more careful. If I had just kept in mind the possibility that the Gateways were still open, I wouldn't have let my guard down. [A pause, and he starts walking away, speeding up just a little.]

I need to find it now. [Tap. Tap. Tap.] I would not wish to worry Lady Chrodechild, not after she just gave me a mission to fulfill. [Tap. Tap. Tap.] But where would I even find it? I don't even recall going through a Gateway before I got here and--- [He inhales sharply, stopping in his tracks.] How could I have been so ca-- [The feed cuts almost immediately as he clutches his hair in frustration, bumping the communicator by the side of his head and turning it off accidentally. This wasn't going to end well for him.]

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE: To say he was worried was, perhaps, an understatement. While world-hopping was something he wasn't unfamiliar with, it was still distressing to know you ended up in a completely different realm without your conscious consent. Even worse was that just earlier he was asked by Chrodechild to deliver a message to Sieg, and considering he vanished midway through the journey? It was very distressing indeed.

Not to mention, he thought grimly, I should have been more carefull. It wasn't unlikely for a person to come to another world completely by accident. Cougar did it, and so did Lubberkin, and both of them had taken a while to return to their respective worlds. This was another dilemma he was facing. Perhaps, if he hadn't been in the middle of a mission, he would feel less worried. However, if either Chrodechild or Sieg found out that the messenger has disappeared, it would cause unnecessary trouble. The last thing he wanted was to give them any problems.

He looks at the communicator at hand though, observing it for now. All the initial energy caused by panic has been dispersed, after all, and now all he could do is rest his legs and think a lot more clearly. First off, he knew, he needed to at least search for the Gateway. Perhaps there would be someone here who knew. A Wanderer perhaps? The second was, on the off-chance he could not find it by today, problematic as that is, was to figure out where to stay in the meantime. He did not have currency of this place, nor was he certain if they understood his language or not. If he were lucky, this would be an easy feat.

He sighs, running a hand through his hair. "Quite a predicament I landed in this time." He says to himself. He'll just have to hope for the best then.

CHARACTER NAME: Jane Crocker
SERIES: Homestuck
CANON POINT: Just as Jane enters Sburb.
APPEARANCE: boop
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Jane should be a Harvest Cleric, given her title as Maid of Life in Sburb. It seems that life players get healing powers, so a healer class fits her perfectly!
PREVIOUSLY IN HOLYRELIC: N/A

PERSONALITY: There are two words repeatedly used to describe Jane: “tightass” and “skeptic”. And there’s a reason for this: Jane’s a little overly skeptical! Her friend Dirk is constantly challenging her to be more open, and she’s actively hurt her friend Roxy by not believing her. Jane claims she believes in her, but her logical mind makes it difficult for her to truly believe that Roxy is the one who stole her pumpkins with some kinda magic future technology! In most cases, Jane is right to be skeptical, yes, but her tendency to be skeptical by default means that she rarely takes anything her friends tell her at face value. It is this stubborn skepticism that keeps her in the dark from the (admittedly obvious) sabotage and subliminal messaging being directed at her by the Batterwitch.

As the story progresses, however, Jane makes an effort to be less skeptical as a rule. She is really loyal and affectionate towards her friends, and when she realizes how she’s hurt them, she takes it pretty hard. She tends to beat up on herself when she makes mistakes like this, even if she has reason to do what she’s done. This might be a symptom of her general social awkwardness. Given how she handles discussing more serious things (like her crush on Jake), it seems she can get flustered when feelings are involved, and in some cases opts to take the fall herself rather than let anyone else get hurt.

Still, Jane isn’t above getting frustrated or angry. It just doesn’t happen that often. When it does, however, the most she’s been shown to do is snap or TYPE IN ALL CAPS, so it seems she has good control over her temper. She doesn’t always have control over her impulses, however, as she is quick to grow impatient when told to wait on starting up the game Roxy has sent her. This is a good quality in a junior gumshoe, perhaps, but it’s likely to get her into trouble. Her curiosity and desire to solve mysteries is just as strong as her interest in jokes and pranks, and might just be the major thing to set her apart from her Poppop, John Crocker.

FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE:

[Jane tiptoes around the gate, eyeing it like it’s about to jump out and attack her. With all her ties to her various allies (and potential murderers), she’s feeling a little off-kilter. Whether this was the thing that brought her here or the thing that will get her out, she doesn’t feel like jumping into it will have any bearing on her tight-assery. After all, it’d be just ludicrous to jump headfirst into it.

Unless her dad’s in there.

Oh shit, what if her dad’s in there?!

Jane grips her cheeks (the ones on her face, geez!), groaning a little. Whatever is she meant to do now?

It’s at this point that she notices a...thing-- er, person! In a similar predicament.]

Er, hello? I’m Jane! Do you know where we-- oh goodness, what in the fuck are you?

[The stranger turns, glares.]

Uh-- I just mean, you look a little...gray...around the gills.

PROBABLY BECAUSE I’M A TROLL. BUT I SUPPOSE YOU HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE WHAT A TROLL IS SO THE VERY CONCEPT OF EXPLAINING THIS TO YOU IS ENTIRELY FUCKING POINTLESS.

Oh! I know some trolls!

...UH, YOU DO? HUH.

Yes! There’s a swell one who’s a girl and a not-so-nice one who mostly wants to kill us! I’m guessing you aren’t either of them since they apparently sort of watch us or something voyeuristic like that.

I HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE WHO YOU ARE, NO. AND AS FOR YOUR QUESTION, NO FUCKING CLUE WHERE WE ARE.

Well, that’s just devil fucking wonderful.

WHAT?

Sorry. Inside joke.

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE: (if you're already actively playing a character in HR, you don't need to do this section! but surprise us with your creativity and put something here anyway~?)

To put it frankly, this was not what Jane expected Sburb to look like. Or...feel like? Who put her in these leathery duds? This stuff is straight up Medieval! Or perhaps Renaissance-ian? Oh, that isn’t even a word.

Jane wanders around, taking a cautious inventory of her surroundings. It seems Sburb’s Alpha has taken a bit of an abrupt setting shift? This looks nothing like Prospit-- there is not nearly enough gold --and it feels too fantastical to be Earth. Then again, she did say she was going to work on her skepticism, and immediately assuming that something is up when nothing may in fact be up would be the opposite of open-mindedness, wouldn’t it?

So...Sburb. She’s in the game! She should tell someone! Just gotta get the ol’ Tiaratop fired up (surely Dirk will forgive her for this just this once!) and send off a few HOO HOO HUZZAH!-s to her compatri...ots...

Oh shit, the freaking thing is gone! What the hell is this bullshit? A PDA? Who sends messages on those?! Aaaaaugh! Why can’t anything in this game go right?!

character.
CHARACTER NAME: Karkat Vantas
SERIES: series
CANON POINT: Post forced dick drawing with Dave circa Act 6, Intermission 2.
APPEARANCE: someone get this kid some braces
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Flick Reaper, if possible! Karkat has the most experience using scythes as a weapon, and while I'm sure he'd think he'd be a bad ass at any of the more tank style classes, passing out every time he gives someone a paper cut will get old.
PREVIOUSLY IN HOLYRELIC: N/A

PERSONALITY: You've all met a guy like this. One who is a giant jackass yet for some reason people still tend to gravitate to him anyway, usually out of some deprived and misguided sense of pity. Or maybe they just think his impotent rage is hilarious and worth watching the train wreck of him attempting to socialize with people in which case you'd probably be right. ANYWAY my point is this: the impression most get when first dealing with this guy is that he is a giant douche. His first line of dialog in the series is word for word, "HI AGAIN, IDIOT" and it only gets worse from there.

He's cantankerous (best word ever amiright), quarrelsome and decidedly difficult to get along with because he finds a way to get snappish at just about anything anyone says. Seriously, this guy could find a way to misconstrue your innocent comment about the weather and would proceed to berate you for remarking on such a worthless and trivial subject in the first place with some unnecessarily long winded metaphor that actually makes no sense. Along with this stunning inability to communicate his displeasure with anyone normally, Karkat also manages to be simultaneously crude and imaginative in his cursing. Seriously, don't get him started, he won't shut up.

Karkat isn't a very patient troll, either. He quickly tires of explaining things to his friends and the human kids, even getting to the point where he immediately refuses to answer certain questions because he's explained it already. Some of it can be attributed to time shenanigans, after all you'd get tired of having the same conversation over and over too, but a lot of it is simply because he doesn't have a lot of patience.

That isn't to say he is always crabby, or totally unreasonable. He has been shown to have normal conversations, usually when the situation calls for him to be more serious and share whatever knowledge he has on a subject. He's even shown reflecting on a past verbal sparring match with himself, admitting fault and deciding to step away from the argument. It's just a matter of getting him to focus on something that doesn't involve berating a character. This guy is the king of TL;DR and frequently bores his friends with explanations that would be better off being kept simple. If nothing else, he likes the sound of his own voice.

Despite his hideous outward attitude, Karkat is definitely the more caring and concerned of the trolls. He expresses a willingness to listen to the numerous problems of his friends, even needling them and prying when they aren't necessarily forthcoming about what's bothering them, offers romantic advice and generally guides them in attempt to keep them from all murdering each other horribly, even though all of them drive him various degrees of "batshit up the belfry." Its only when he gets too wrapped up in his own shit that he ends up failing horribly, as seen with Gamzee and his honking murder spree.

Its worth noting a lot of Karkat's bluster and argumentative personality is a weak attempt to cover up his own insecurities. Really weak. Seriously, even a blind troll girl can see through his transparent act. He believes he's got the makings of greatness in him but simultaneously hates himself and doubts his ability to lead. As of late, he has given up the leader reigns, no longer eagerly trying to distinguish himself as a special snowflake amongst his friends but still wants to tell others what to do, as seen with Dave and how their sharing Terezi as a compromise is going to work. Spoiler: it didn't work.

Some of this self doubt is because of his compassion-caring isn't the state of norm for trolls and he's pretty much the odd man out on a planet full of these retards-but there's also the matter of his blood color; a bright, mutant red. In the troll caste-based system, his blood ranks lower than lowest on the ladder and had the right people known about it, he would've been culled for simply existing. As a result, he's incredibly careful and paranoid about keeping his blood color a secret for most of canon, even from his friends. They do eventually find out and accept him but Karkat still hasn't completely accepted this part of himself, at least not in public. Having conversations with a past/future version of himself to make reading logs easier and try to reassure himself he is not in fact as neurotic as he truly is, sure. But he still defaults to the anonymity of gray when speaking with his friends.

It should be noted that Karkat isn't the best at dealing with things when they go wrong. He can't stand the sight of blood, even if it isn't his own. That isn't to say he is nonviolent or a pacifist. He's shown fighting imps throughout the events of Alterniabound, pulling no punches. The difference being that imps don't explode in a torrential downpour of blood. Also they occasionally do things like attack you. The thing is, he tends to be useless when people start getting their murder on or his friends start dying. He stands by and watches with his mouth hanging open when Eridan murders Kanaya and Feferi, and he basically has a mental breakdown when he thinks Sollux is dead (the first time, since this dude dies a lot) as a result of his inaction. He's not a horrible leader, considering he managed to get his entire team through their campaign alive, but he takes his mistakes very hard.

Karkat is also a secret romantic and has an intense love of romance comedies. Usually really bad ones. As a result, he considers himself something of an expert on troll romance and willing engages others in explanations about quadrants, which really no one but himself seems to give a shit about. Ironically, he's probably the worst at actually talking about or showing his *~feelings,~* at least the ones not related to anger. While he is aware that Nepeta has a one sided red crush on him, he is intent on avoiding the issue until it is too late to address. It also takes most of the sgrub campaign for him to admit to feeling something for Terezi, and he spends some of his time afterwards sending her incredibly mixed signals.

samples.
FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE: [ There is a trick to dealing with temporal displacement, or whatever the fuck you call it when you were in one place and suddenly wake up in another. That's generally not to panic while putting on your thinking cap and figuring out what the heck happened, or you know, calmly asking those around you for help. Unfortunately, Karkat doesn't really do calm or rational when shit goes wrong.

Probably because sleep isn't a luxury afforded to Karkat on the best of days, even before Jack's destruction of Prospit and Derse. He'd spent the entire SGRUB campaign awake, not once taking a break to get some much needed rest. He probably wouldn't have even slept afterwards, had Kanaya, Tavros, Equius and the others not had a lapse of sanity so grand (debatable, since he doubted any of them had two working brain cells to rub together most days) that clearly the solution to enabling Tavros to walk again was to chainsaw the lower half of his body off and grant him a pair of robolegs, all while he was standing innocently by. Unprepared for the flood of orange-brown blood coming his way.

Fucking idiots, the lot of them. It had been a wonder any of them had survived their time in the game, one of Gamzee's retarded miracles that would remain unexplained. It still hadn't been enough to save them. He hadn't done enough.

Needless to say, waking up with a group of unfamiliar, unconscious bodies in a room he'd never seen before was a blaring exhortation horn to his think pan that something had gone horribly, inexplicably wrong. Well, wronger than things were previously. He takes deep, gasping breaths in a useless attempt to keep his cool but the moment someone else is awake, he's rushing over to them to get some answers.

Poor sap.]

YOU. YES, YOU, THE SLACK JAWED, DROOLING BUFFOON WHOSE SNORES COULD LEVEL A SMALL CITY, DON'T EVEN FUCKING PRETEND I COULD POSSIBLY BE TALKING TO ANYONE ELSE. YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE THAT'S AWAKE, DUMB SHIT.

YOU.

YOU'RE GOING TO TELL ME WHAT THE FUCK WE'RE DOING HERE, WHY WE'RE IN THESE RIDICULOUS OUTFITS, AND WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO EVERY LAST ONE OF MY BARELY TOLERABLE FORCED TRAVELING COMPANIONS OR I'M GOING TO FLIP MY SHIT. I WILL FLIP MY SHIT SO WELL AND SO LONG THAT IT WILL BE CHARRED TO A GRILLED PERFECTION, AND JUST WHEN YOU THINK IT CAN'T POSSIBLY GET ANY BETTER, I WILL COVER IT WITH THE MAYO OF EXQUISITE BATSHITTERY AND FORCE IT DOWN YOUR GAPING FEED CHUTE-

[Any time you wanna cut in would be good.]

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE: Shopping for supplies wasn't something required during the SGRUB campaign. Probably because the majority of their group had been blood thirsty and slightly batshit insane. Boonbucks had become something of a joke-he'd scattered his to the majority of the treasure chests lurking on the meteor back home post completion of the game, with no intention or desire to use them again-or items the more bizarre of his friends had hoarded like a fucking fire-breathing reptilian-beast, guarding its make believe treasure from, human jegus forbid, anyone who actually gave enough of a shit to stumble down into its lair and take anything. So, money had been something of a useless collector's item back home, but finding out the opposite applied here had been interesting and incredibly vexing, especially when buying bullshit like armor that didn't suck was becoming a necessity.

It had admittedly taken him a while to save up enough of the Gold, lots of pointless level grinding and monster throwing but Karkat was pretty sure he had the reasonable funds to afford what he needed as he made his way to the marketplace, alone, perusing some of the items as he went. Most of it was standard video game crap; potions and topical agents used for status ailments, items to replenish mana, the works. Things he'd already obsessively stocked up on; he'd seen enough dying on the meteor, it wasn't something he wanted a repeat of. Sure, the responsibility of making sure no one murdered each other horribly had been firmly pushed onto Lalonde or Strider or whoever in the fuck wanted it, he didn't care, but... Well, it wasn't like he was trying to undermine them! Just be prepared! That was a totally normal and unleaderly thing to do.

No. No, no, no. He didn't have to justify that to himself. A shittier leader had never been hatched, much less escaped the brooding caverns and he was simply not cut out for this shit. Fuck that, there was no motive behind it and he resolved to keep from dwelling on it as he stomped his way up to the poor, unfortunate NPC running the armory. "Take my fucking money and give me what I want!"

CHARACTER NAME: Roxy Lalonde
SERIES: MS Paint Adventures: Homestuck
CANON POINT: Act 6; After the dones disappeared, when Roxy is trying to rescue the caraspace and trying escape from the Red Miles.
APPEARANCE: boop
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Steam Gunner
Roxy’s weapon of choice is a rifle, as seen in canon, she was using the rifle to fight off drones, steam gunner would be suitable work with this. Other choices would be Tribal Grappler as in seen in Roxy’s Strife Specibi, she has a “fistkind” meaning her other weapon of choice would be her fists or Shadow Warlock for Roxy love of wizards
)

PERSONALITY:
Roxy on the surface is the definition of a party teenager; she is casual, fun-loving, flirty and loves to drink. These personality traits make her completely different from her Ectobiological (The kids and trolls were made through ectobiology, by paradox clones and green slime) daughter/mother Rose

as she is much more social, outgoing and open with her friends than her mother is with others. Roxy’s laid-back attitude shows how much more casual she is compared to Rose; it also leads to her having a habit of swearing and cursing a lot. She also has quite a sense of humour; she not only makes jokes at the expense of her friends but also at herself with drunk typing and spelling errors. Roxy’s flirtatious nature has led her to flirt with friends and even her friend Jane’s dad. She has also had “flirtlarp” sessions with Dirk’s Auto-response, continuing to flirt with the AR even after finding out that the AR is a 13 year old version of Dirk.

Roxy loves to drink; she is an underage drinker and is seemingly always intoxicated. This is one source of her constant spelling mistakes, which she then tries to correct with asterisks. Her alcoholism stems from the cabin full of alcohol that her mother has, and that Roxy knows her mother will never touch. She also believes that her mother left it there as part of the passive aggressive war that the two Lalondes are involved in.

While she may be, on the surface, the stereotypical party girl, there is more to her than meets the eye. She is actually a lot more perceptive of the situation than she lets on and she does know how to weasel her way out of problems. For example, when Dirk once pointed out her spelling mistakes Roxy claimed that she was drunk, using that as an excuse for her typos even though later she showed that she can actually type without mistakes even when under the influence of alcohol. Roxy is fully aware what’s going on and contrary to her image she is not ditzy; she has a full grasp of the situation that she is in, and she can be sneaky enough to try and worm her way out if necessary.

Furthermore, Roxy is also quite clever. She is able to work with ectobiology, a type of science used to clone dead or living subjects. Her intelligence is also revealed through her hacking skills. She made a bogus exploding file of the Suburb game to scare Jane away from playing it and to prove to her friend the kind of power that the Batterwitch (aka Betty Crocker, an antagonist against the kids) has. Roxy was able to not only create this file; she was also skilled enough to hack into Betty Crocker’s database to obtain a pirated copy of the Alpha Sburb.

Roxy lives in the 25th Century of a post-apocalyptic world with Dirk where both Alpha Dad (Dirk’s bro) and Alpha Mom have been killed by the Batterwitch. Roxy’s motivation to play the game comes from the fact that she might be able to resurrect her own mother and get back at the batterwitch if she can beat the game. She lives surrounded by a caraspace colony, as such Roxy would steal pumpkins from Jane and Jake to give to the caraspaces. This goes with her title, ‘Rogue’, as she steals from her friends to give to the caraspaces, similar to Robin Hood.

A lot of Roxy’s actions are for selfless reasons; she cares for her friends and wants to keep their friendship with as little drama as possible. Her advice, whether it concerns romance or important information, always comes from good intentions even if her ideas, such as the bogus file of the suburb game, weren’t as clearly well thought-out as they should have been.

samples.

FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE:
[Roxy did love her games, but she was definitely more into the classic games, this game was not her style. She wonders around the root town, having no idea what’s she doing or where she is going, she thinks of the million reasons why she never played MMO games, the venders had been no help and she couldn’t find anyone who wasn’t a NPC around, she was tired and sore from walking around endless and all she really wanted to do was to sit and get a suss on the situation.]

Dammniiiit I am hoooooot and tireeeeed!! Why the fuck is there no place to sit down and rest for 5 secs!!

[she sighs and decides to keep on walking, may as well keep going, staying around here isn’t going to be much help.]

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:
Roxy has no idea how she ended up here, one minute she was trying to abscond from drones, trying to keep the caraspaces safe from the ongoing attacks and the next thing she knows she is in Derse. Not even her dreaming self has even woken up to experience this, but never did she imagine seeing the purple kingdom ever to look like this.

She never really did see this coming, Roxy was surrounded by red miles and fire that had seemly spread everywhere, and she could feel the ground shaking so hard, it felt like the earth would spit below her and she would fall into an endless abyss. To top off this situation, she also had alcohol still in her system; she could feel the hangover coming on now, this certainly wasn’t going to be pretty! It was hard to do anything, Roxy couldn’t even think, or try and make plans for her next move, all she could do is sit, and pray for some sort of miracle. Of course her luck comes in the form of Jane Crocker, her bbf forever, who happened to just come by, Roxy tried to shout to get her attention.

“Janeeeey!! Hmm sorry! but i have no idea what happened myself, i mean if this is some candle i knocked then shiiiiit that must of be some awful big ass candle i knocked over.”

“Anyway is there any chance you could get your little tush over here and help me out?”

She tried to smile, assure her, but with the situation at hand? Unlikely, she knew how sceptical Jane could be, and even tho Jane promised to have more faith in Roxy, she could still see the doubt on Jane’s face. They were both in terrible danger with all the fire and smoke, Roxy first concern was making sure that both of them would come alive of this, even tho Roxy had no idea how they would get out of this.

character.
CHARACTER NAME: Jale
SERIES: Suikoden: Tierkreis
CANON POINT: After Sieg returns from being thrown into the Ravine of Infinity
APPEARANCE: unwittingly bishonen
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Tribal Grappler. There are like a dozen reasons I could give you as to why but I'll keep it quick: his starting weapon is a set of gloves, and he also packs a suplex technique. This means a lot considering that he is one of only two characters in a cast of 85-95 combat-capable characters to do so. The other one? That would be his mother.

No word yet on whether it works on trains, though.

PERSONALITY: Jale, in his youth, used to contend with the main character (who by most accounts is referred to as Sieg) for the position of "village troublemaker". Not a lot came from it, seeing that their his their home village of Citro was so isolated that it governed itself, with no influence whatsoever from any other country. Generally speaking, that part of his life is glossed over and kind of even added as an afterthought. I presume, though, that Dirk and his mother had quite an influence in getting him over it, even despite the latter's absence from the village in most situations. Said mother manages to be able to boost his self-consciousness when she's around... which seems to be why he tries to keep away from her.

Nowadays, though, he's the level-headed member of Sieg's inner circle of four. His emotions are generally very subdued, and often has just the right idea of what to do in an emotionally charged atmosphere. It wouldn't give Sieg too much pause, though, as once that kid's set on something it's going to happen. As a result, he doesn't really bother saying that kind of thing... unless they agree. A good example is when Sieg receives news of his extradimensional beastman friend Cougar's demise: recognizing that Sieg needs to brood (for once), he tells his other close friends Liu and Marica to wait outside while they (er... more like just Sieg, as Jale wasn't all that close with Cougar) get over it.

One of the few things that really threw him off balance was his (second, after his mother) mentor in the art of combat, Dirk, defecting to the Order of the One True Way. Dirk, in a nutshell, had reacted very poorly to the four friends suddenly gaining powers from a mysterious book and therefore outclassing him. Dirk's reasoning that "this isn't the way it's supposed to go" was a perfect opportunity for an Order agent to recruit him. Losing someone that used to be so important and friendly to him this way was, while not crushing, definitely a blow to his psyche - he ('ll do / would have done) anything to get Dirk back, because Sieg wants it too.

If only that were possible. Sadly, Dirk has to die. But he doesn't know that, and doesn't think it, either. Who can say what the future is until it happens?

FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE:

[Wait. This isn't where he'd wanted to go. In fact, this wasn't anywhere he'd been, and that wasn't a Gateway behind him. The Wanderers couldn't have made such a huge mistake, but there was nothing to be done about that for now. What mattered was getting back to the castle, or at least his own world.

It wouldn't do any good to panic, either. At least there were people here.]

Hey, you.

[It's not a soft voice, not overbearing, but composed. A little deep, and quicker than you might be used to hearing.]

Where am I?

CHARACTER NAME: Hershel Layton
SERIES: Professor Layton and the Wikipedia Entry!
CANON POINT: After Unwound Future
APPEARANCE: A true gentleman never takes his hat off.
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Blade Brandier; Layton is a professor of archeology first and foremost but he is familiar with the rules and techniques of fencing. He was in the fencing club in his youth! So the single-handed Blade that's used by the class suits Layton's fighting style the moost.
PREVIOUSLY IN HOLYRELIC: NOPE

PERSONALITY: First and foremost, Professor Hershel Layton is a gentleman. He practically lives by the adage "That's what a gentleman does", a sentiment that may or may not have it's roots in his relationship with his late girlfriend. Layton is always polite and keeps calm regardless of what's happening or who he is talking to. Despite being rather soft-spoken and hardly ever raising his voice, the professor has a way of commanding the attention of everyone around him. Whether this charisma was a born talent or something he picked up along the way is hard to tell but it has served him well as both a puzzle master and a professor of archeology (how else would he get all his students to listen to him?). The few times that Layton has been heard yelling (or shouting) usually involves his close friends, his apprentice and/or his young ward and a life threatening situation.

Speaking of anger, Layton has the patience of a saint and rarely, if ever, flies off the handle. Even when he's angry it's very much the epitome of the "Tranquil Fury" trope. A true gentleman doesn't make a scene in public after all. There are only a few times in the games where he loses his temper and those times usually involves the well-being of his apprentice (the 13 year-old Luke Triton) and his ward (the rather sheltered Flora Reinhold). To say that Layton is protective of the kids in his care is to put it very lightly; he would defy physics for them.

Layton has a huge soft spot for puzzles as well. While his career is as a professor of archeology (a position he earned at the age of 27) he's often found helping the police with investigations or just helping a person on the sidewalk with some puzzle or another. He loves a clever riddle or brainteaser as much as he loves a good cup of Earl Grey tea; which is to say, a lot. His ability to notice small clues and apply logic to nearly anything has helped (and thwarted) many an individual. His first assistant, Emmy Altava, was saved from being arrested due to the Professor explaining clearly how she could not have possibly stolen a young boy's wallet to an officer while Don Paolo, Layton's self-proclaimed rival, has had many a plan thwarted by our dear professor. He can, literally and quite impressively, deconstruct an elaborate plot using only logic and clues that many people have missed or brushed off as irrelevant. Of course, having a wide network of friends and colleagues as well as a wide influence certainly helps when trying to find clues for investigations.

Let it not be said that Layton is not a man of action though! Professor Layton is a man of many talents. It just happens that he's a pacifist and his ability to use logic to get himself and his companions out of their jams tends to overshadow the other equally impressive skills that he has. Layton was part of the fencing club in his highschool and his skills have not dulled with time. He is, however, an actual pacifist and will not fight to the death. This often means that he'll try to gain some space to breathe or talk the other man out of the duel (but it's not always successful, thanks for destroying your own castle, Anton). Another notable talent of Layton's is the fact that he's quite a skilled pianist and has a taste for music. For example, he could play - without slipping up - two parts in a three part melody after only having access to the music scores themselves for a few minutes.

He's still human though. While he has a way with puzzles and logic problems that could make anyone green with envy, his organization skills aren't quite up to par. He also has his vacant moments; his relationship with Don Paolo apparently had it's start in university but, ten years later, Layton still had no idea who Don Paolo was and never remembering the fact that, oh, I do know these people who are now major players in this game's storyline. He's the sort of man who would get so wrapped up in work that he'd end up falling asleep in his clothes and hat on the couch in his office but think nothing of it.

samples.
FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE: [there's a journal on the nightstand next to the professor's bed. He made it a habit to write a brief summary of what was happening during investigations]

The strangest thing has happened. More than what had happened with the whole time travel affair. Well, I suppose the greatest difference between my previous 'adventures' and this one is the matter of whether I volunteered for it or not. Everything that happened in St. Mystere and Folsense were a surprise, without a doubt, but not quite to this level. Though I'm grateful that Luke is away and won't be pulled into this, I can't help but worry about dear Flora.

This place doesn't appear to be anywhere near London either. All this speculation and not a single answer in sight. What a puzzling situation I seem to have found myself in this time...

CHARACTER NAME: Raphael
SERIES: Rhythm Thief
CANON POINT: After the game/ LAST DANCE
APPEARANCE: It's SHOWTIME
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Macabre Dancer - So apparently, Phantom R has a myriad of skills under his belt from dancing to close quarters combat to swordskills. However, all of it goes back to one thing and one thing only; this boy has got the beat.
PREVIOUSLY IN HOLYRELIC: NOPE

PERSONALITY: Raphael... How to put it. He's a strange one. Perhaps it has something to do with his being a virtual orphan after his father's abandonment three years prior to the game or it may lie in connection with his persona of the Phantom R, but Raphael is friendly with a streak of mischievous. He has heroic qualities to him - the desire to help people out and to do what's right - but he's not exactly played straight either. He's not above stealing (Raphael does it all the time, even) or breaking and entering (something he's gotten quite good at) but he does have morals. Why, he often checks the front door first before actually sneaking into a building!

Which is something that was noted in game; he has truthful eyes. Despite his reputation as a phantom art thief, Raphael has never actually hurt anyone doing it. Startled a few security personnel and constables, certainly, but he doesn't fight unless he's cornered into it. His abilities are all self-taught and learnt, which is quite something as he's only had two years to perfect his 'Phantom R' skills. And these skills vary from the usual lock picking and sneaking to more dangerous platform hopping and close quarters combat. Shocking seeing as how Raphael used to be a sickly young child. His father had started creating forgeries of great works of art to sell on the black market in order to pay the doctors treating Raphael. Which would certainly explain why Raphael himself is so fixated on finding his father. After all, it was just him and Isaac for the longest time after Raphael's mother passed away.

But he's not too bitter about it (which implies he may have been too young to remember his mother in the first place). Instead, he uses the unique sense of rhythm he inherited from his mother to further his Phantom Thief repertoire. As the Phantom R, he's very cool and collected which is required when one needs to pick locks and sneak past guards! He rarely panics unless something extreme happens (such as the unexpected appearance of a gun) and even then, he tries his best to do what he can. With his faithful partner, Fondue, by his side though, Phantom R has managed to escape the Paris Constabulary's clutches for two whole years and counting. Compared to his attitude towards his first caper - a sort of sombre resignation and uncertainty - nowadays, he approaches his thefts with a sort of playfulness that belies how dangerous his job actually is. He has, after all, broken a leg trying to escape the police once before.

Underneath that cool but cheerful exterior is a kind hearted young man... One that is still hurt by his father's blatant act of abandonment. Thankfully, he has the support of a decent number of individuals around Paris, which can't be solely due to the fact that he's an abandoned child. Raphael does care for the people around him as well and will help others even if it might put his own life in danger for the sake of doing what's right. It's a very un-thief-like gesture if we're going by standard measures of a thief. All in all, he's a very good boy in strangely uncomfortable circumstances.

Raphael is responsible as well. He was practically living alone and supporting himself for three years. Himself and his dog, Fondue, for two years too. His theft of the priceless works of art in the Louvre does not actually earn him any money. He doesn't sell the goods, he's actually returning the real ones that his father stole! Which is probably fortunate that Phantom R keeps slipping through the Constabulary's fingers and Raphael himself seems to be well loved by the people around him. Though one can't help but wonder why he seems so comfortable walking around in broad daylight dressed in his Phantom R outfit...

So to sum him up... Raphael is honest, kind hearted, responsible, curious, mischievous and rhythmic. Hey, the kid is called 'Rhythm Thief' for a reason!

FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE: [walking out of the Chaos Gate is a young Macabre Dancer with red hair. He looks a bit disoriented... And appears to be talking to himself] I can't say I remember ever coming across something as strange as this. Then again, I guess it isn't every day you go to sleep in your own bed only to wake up on a stone floor, is it? Sleepwalking isn't really my thing. Granted, this whole costume gig isn't something I'm foreign to, but I don't think I've ever had to wear something like this. Eh, Fondue?

[he looks down only to find that he was standing there alone]

... Fondue?

[a quick search reveals absolutely nothing. No fur, no bandanna, no pretty poodles to woo]

Oh... Where'd he run off to? [he turns to try and stop a passerby] Hello! Excusez-moi? Can I have a moment of your time? 'Allo! I'm a bit lost and it seems like my partner has gotten himself lost as well. Do you know where we are, why I'm dressed like this and have you seen an Altasian Cheesehund around? No, I'm not making a joke, he really is an Altasian Cheesehund- Ah, wait!

[personal profile] headset 2012-08-13 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
PERSONALITY:
One of the most important facts to know about Kirito is the fact that he's both a "solo player" and a "clearer" in the virtual reality MMORPG Sword Art Online. In a game where death in-game means death in real life and the only means of leaving is through clearing all its levels -- there isn't much room for errors and inexperience when on the front lines. While in the beginning there is ten thousand people within the game -- it's reality that only a fairly small fraction of the population are actually interested in putting their lives on the line to accomplish the aforementioned goal. And as the protagonist of the series, it's only natural that Kirito is a part of the game's minority.

With his baby-like face and somewhat short stature, it's not hard at all to underestimate him -- in fact, in canon, it happens pretty often. However, the titles he's earned are feats of their own. While clearers are highly regarded within the game, being a solo player pretty cancels the fame of the former. This is because everyone in the game is essentially in this together, and to many, working alongside each other should be a natural thing to do. However, being in a party splits up the experience gained, and loot is often distributed randomly or split evenly. Being a solo player has its benefits in this form -- allowing you to keep both to yourself. But because that is its greatest perk, solo players are frequently viewed as selfish. Regardless of how he appears to the public however, it's simply the most efficient way of reaching his goal -- so he continues to work alone. In a way too, being a solo player makes you pretty brave, since it does put you at a greater risk when training. (Status effects such as paralysis are hard to cure when you're on your own, after all!)

"To tell the truth, I didn’t get along with people in real life or in games, perhaps even less so than in real life."

Despite the quote and the abovementioned, Kirito does get along with people rather well! Though some of his traits may cause him to seem antisocial and the works, he isn't averse to social contact. In fact, he actually likes being around people rather than being on his own as shown when he joins the guild "Black Cats of the Full Moon." He just isn't the type of person to start up conversations out of the blue, as most of his relationships are ones that have spawned naturally. Beyond that, he's more or less your average teen in this category. He smiles, he laughs, he teases -- and like most others his age, he definitely has his awkward moments. There's also the fact that he doesn't really mind partying and the works -- assimilating into them rather easily when required.

Kirito is the type of person to favour living modestly rather than famously. Despite gaining quite the reputation as "the Black Swordsman," no one really knows his identity otherwise -- and he likes it that way. Showing off isn't his thing, and he even says at one point that he prefers to keep the cards of his hand hidden. The fact that he's a dual wielder is a prime example of this, as it wasn't until much after he maxed out the skill and in a dire situation that he revealed its existence. His life style in general is another instance of this. As a solo player and clearer to boot, Kirito has a lot of opportunities to live more extravagantly than he does -- but in the end, he rarely ever takes that route. In a nutshell, he's a casual guy to be around and usually does things at his own pace.

A quick thinker, observant, and level-headed -- Kirito isn't a force to be trifled with on the battlefield, nor is he someone you want to get in the way of. It helps that willpower is something he seems to have in abundance of as well. When there's something he wants to achieve, you can bet on it that he'll see to it to the very end -- even if it may or may not cost him his life. Promises and words are things he almost never backs down on, so it's only natural that whenever things go wrong the first person Kirito blames is himself; which then weighs down on him for at least a good chunk of time.

And finally, like many other shounen protagonists, Kirito has a strong sense of justice and doesn't hesitate when it comes to helping others. Crime isn't something he can stand for which is showcased several times throughout his canon, and this ties in rather nicely with the latter mentioned trait. Even when he could be doing things that are more worthwhile of his time, if there's someone he sees that needs help, then the rest is history.

FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE:
... This isn't Sword Art Online. [ it's his first thought, when finding himself surrounded left and right by foreign architecture. he mutters under his breath for a brief moment, before making a hand gesture. ] And it doesn't run on the same game engine as it, either.

[ ordinarily, there'd be a menu that would pop up in front of him. but that was clearly not the case in this situation... ] -- Mm.

[ and then, there's another beat. he pinches his cheek for good measure. ] Not a dream, either.

[ ... ] I haven't gone insane, have I?

[ but despite that last thought, he sighs and moves on. besides, at this point, crazy occurrences were happening so frequent around him -- that everything was starting to feel normal. ]

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:
It had been a solid two weeks since he had found himself in "The World." Coming from where he did, it didn't take long at all for him to settle down. But it was ridiculous, to be stuck in one game and then suddenly pulled from that one to be stranded in another. Initial shock and surprise aside however, Kirito wasn't one to waste time. Standing around idly wouldn't solve anything, and results were only gained if you put in the work to earn them.

There was no forgetting about the fact that he was at a severe disadvantage as well -- at least, in comparison to everyone else stuck in the situation. It was completely different than how it was in Sword Art Online, where he had been a veteran and had been in-game since day one. "The World," in comparison, had been up and running for quite a while, so there was no way for him to gain an edge there. While those thoughts had lingered around for the first few days, they dissipated soon after. They were unnecessary weights onwards to his goal.

So in order to close up the gap, he had gathered what information he could and trained endlessly. It wasn't hard to get into this cycle, and while mechanics had differed -- Kirito was determined to find a way back home.

CHARACTER NAME: Clive Dove
SERIES: Professor Layton
CANON POINT: Post-Unwound Future
APPEARANCE:
(with hat)
(without hat)
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Shadow Warlock ; While Clive does not have any magical abilities in canon, I believe he would be best suited as a magic user because his build suggests that he is not very physically capable at all (seriously, look at how fucking skinny he is), so any attempts to fight in the front lines would probably end horribly. Also, magic users are often associated with intelligence, and Clive is pretty much a genius, so there's that, too. Despite being physically weak, he'd still like to be able to fight in some way and not just spam healing spells/buffs the entire battle, so that's why I chose Shadow Warlock over the other two spellcasting classes.
PREVIOUSLY IN HOLYRELIC: N/A

PERSONALITY:
Clive is frightfully intelligent for his age, considering that he was able to devise such a complex revenge all on his own. Not only that, he also demonstrates a superior ability to solve puzzles; he may even be around the same level as Layton. This combined with his overall pleasant demeanor and his apparent knowledge of Layton and Luke allowed him to pass himself off as a very convincing future version of Luke Triton, even though he was eventually found out. His personality when acting as "Big Luke" is somewhat similar to "Little Luke's," such as his admiration for the Professor and his love for puzzles, although there are differences that give off the impression that Luke has changed slightly during his adult years. For example, when they decide to bring Flora along and she gets excited about their adventure, Luke scolds her for not taking it seriously, but Clive says that he likes her enthusiasm, showing that they have different ways of thinking. He is also shown to have more insight about moral issues, as exemplified when Clive explains to Luke why it would be bad if people were able to travel through time, and also displays a cocky attitude at times, like when a Family member makes threats at them and Clive merely brushes him off in a condescending manner.

Towards the end of the game, we find out that the true Clive is not nearly as friendly and trustworthy as he appears to be. He is a cunning, manipulative man, betraying his supposed friendship with Dimitri by building a giant weapon of mass destruction behind his back and using him as a pawn to further his true plans. Not only was Dimitri fooled, but all of the scientists as well, having thought that they were trapped in a future London and had no choice but to cooperate if they wanted to go back home. Clive's bitterness toward the government as well as scientists is so great that it completely warped his sense of justice and legitimately believes that destroying London is proper punishment for Bill Hawks covering up the incident that resulted in the death of his parents ten years ago rather than owning up his mistake. With this mindset, he can easily be interpreted as a truly evil man, but that actually is not the case. He doesn't get a kick out of hurting innocent people or anything like that (he actually dislikes violence against the weak and innocent); he gets a kick out of the idea that he's avenging his parents' deaths and giving Bill Hawks the punishment that he deserves, as well as the people of London for electing such a corrupt man into power. However, you could say that he is selfish. He's so caught up in his desire for revenge that he doesn't even consider how many lives he'd be ruining himself by carrying out his scheme. Ultimately, what he's doing is no better than what Bill Hawks did. In fact, it's probably worse.

But despite all this, there was still a part of him deep down that wanted him to be brought back to his senses. When Layton asks Clive why he got him involved in all this, despite knowing full well the threat that he posed to Clive's plan, he admits that part of him actually wanted to be saved from his insanity, and Layton was just the person capable of doing so. After all, Layton was the one who stopped Clive from running into his burning apartment to look for his parents just after the explosion ten years ago, and it's likely that he found out about Layton's amazing puzzle solving/mystery solving abilities when he started appearing in the newspapers for it. He even admits that he enjoyed spending time with Layton, so overall, Layton is a pretty important person to him and doesn't really bear any ill will towards him whatsoever.

Now that his plan has been foiled and he's been arrested for his crimes, Clive truly does wish to atone for them and not let his anger get the better of him anymore. However, change is never easy, so while he will be making a visible effort to be a better person, he may have his moments of poor judgment, and could even be sent down the wrong path once more if the right buttons are pushed. He still isn't fully mentally stable, so he won't always be able to control himself if his emotions spiral out of control, but he will definitely try if he can help it. After all, he told Layton that he was going to atone for his crimes, and he wants to do his best to keep his word. Ultimately, he'll be retaining some of the gentlemanly behavior he exhibited as Big Luke, which will definitely be a helpful guide to him, but the real challenge will be trying to maintain that behavior at all times.

samples.
FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE:
[Hugging his grimoire to his chest, Clive wanders aimlessly about the unfamiliar city, taking in all the sights. Although he is rather overwhelmed by the unexpected change in location (and attire), he has to admit that this is a very beautiful city. He's never seen anything like it in his entire life.]

It beats being stuck in a prison cell, at least...

[He lets out a sigh and looks around for a bench to sit on; carrying this giant book around gets tiring really quickly. Once he's seated, he sets his grimoire down beside him and digs out a strange device from his pouch. Whatever it's supposed to be, he's rather impressed with the sleek design. Clive spends a few minutes just examining the object before he presses his index finger on the "Touch me!" message on the screen. To his surprise, the screen actually changes to show some sort of menu. It seems that touching the corresponding icons also takes him to different screens.]

What a fascinating little piece of technology. I never would have even imagined that it was possible to build such a device.

[Until he figures out what he should do next, Clive is perfectly content with just sitting here and messing around with the Relic. Touch screen technology hasn't been invented yet in his world, so he'll be entertained by it for quite a while.]

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:
(taken from [community profile] exitvoid app)

Clive was not having a very good start in Kernos at all. He woke up to a strange, painful crawling sensation in his arms and legs, though he soon realized why that was when he sat up and brushed the dirt off of his face. There were lumps on his arms and legs. Not only that, they were moving. "What the--?!" It was bad enough that Clive didn't have even the slighest clue of where he was, how he got here, or what the significance of this strange device and key was, but something was inside him. That was his number one concern at the moment. Taking a brief look around the area, there didn't seem to be a hospital in the vicinity, or any other place he could receive medical attention. Clive had no idea what the consequences of letting these things stay in his body for too long were, so the best solution would be to take care of them himself. It definitely wasn't going to be pleasant, but it was better than nothing.

He needed a sharp object, or at least something tough enough to be able to break skin if enough pressure was applied. The only object around here that fit the description was his key. He held it up closer to his face so he could read what was written on the leather keychain. All that was written was a single letter and a three-digit number. It was likely a room number, but Clive would worry about that after he took care of these moving lumps. "I can't believe I'm doing this..." he muttered with a nervous sigh. He was going to stab himself with a key; it was insane. Then again, he had spent a good amount of his life doing much crazier things. Surely he had enough crazy left in him to pull this off, too.

He'd go for the one on his left arm first. Watching the lump's movements carefully, waiting for the perfect moment to strike, and possibly also using it as an excuse to hesitate, Clive took a deep breath and drove the key as hard as he could right into the lump. He hissed in pain and squeezed his eyes shut for a moment as the cold metal of the key pierced his skin, but he opened his eyes again when he felt something crawling out of where the lump used to be. It was the most grotesque creature Clive had ever seen, and the mere sight of it made him sick to his stomach. How did that thing even get inside him in the first place? He just couldn't fathom it. Although, seeing what the creature actually looked like made him even more eager to get the other ones out of his body, so Clive made quick work of the other three, despite the immense pain that it brought.

Once the things were out of his body and out of sight, he took a moment to breathe and think more about this bizarre situation that he suddenly found himself in. While the injuries he had inflicted upon himself hurt like a bitch and were bleeding quite a bit, he was sure that they didn't pose any immediate threat to his life. It would still be a good idea to get them treated at some point, though, if it was even possible to do that here. But for now, Clive decided to take a look at the device that had been in his other hand, but had set down on the ground in the middle of that bloody mess. When he read the message that was on the screen, he felt a mixture of confusion and disgust. This was all a game? And how could he possibly have fun in a horrible place like this? The whole thing read as pretty damn condescending to him, and only served to worsen his mood.

Noticing that the sky was starting to get dark, Clive slowly rose to his feet and began to walk away from the shoreline. He was going to have to get these wounds checked out, or at least find shelter for the night. In the meantime, perhaps he could try to figure this device out and use it to contact someone for help. If this "president" was able to send him a message, then he should be able to send messages as well, right?

CHARACTER NAME: Ragna (AKA Bloodedge)
SERIES: BlazBlue
CANON POINT: Phase 0: The end of Reality's Red
APPEARANCE: Shazam!
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Blade Brandier. Despite having a large sword that can transform into a scythe, he can only use it with one hand and he has good experience fighting with his sword like that.
PREVIOUSLY IN HOLYRELIC: N/A

PERSONALITY:
If there was one phrase to sum up Ragna's personality, it would be short-tempered. He has no patience for others and prefers to be told things in a direct way, avoiding beating around the bush and vague hints. He actually dislikes being guided to do something through vague hints so much that it's become a pet peeve over the course of his life, almost always sending him into a blind rage that ends with him spewing creative insults at whomever was leading him around with those hints. Ragna has a no non-sense attitude about him, usually condemning people for being of less than average intelligence and for misunderstanding things despite the fact that Ragna isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed himself. Basically, no matter how smart the person might be, Ragna will probably get angry if the person makes a mistake he deems as unnecessary.

And don't get him started on big words he doesn't understand.

Part of this anger and abrasive behavior stems from him being a wanted criminal back in his own timeline, leading to him being lonely and on his own when he's not accompanied by his master or Rachel Alucard. It's almost a defensive mechanism to keep people away, where they're safer. Being around him is dangerous enough as it were, but he's the most wanted criminal in the entire history of the Novus Orbis Librarium. Vigilantes come after him all the time. It just proves that despite Ragna being an asshole most of the time, he does have a heart of gold.

He cares for people that deserve it, and Ragna decides pretty early on whether or not people deserve it. It can stem from helpful behavior, or even if they just demonstrate that they're on his side despite acting like a total jackass. Coming by allies isn't easy for him, and he knows it in the back of his mind. He has to accept whatever help he can get, even if he doesn't want to get others involved in his business. They usually force themselves upon him anyway. But he does try to help whenever he can, and he's not heartless to even strangers.

In Calamity Trigger, Ragna runs into a being consumed by the Boundary and decides to put it out of its misery. Litchi Faye-Ling arrives and begs him not to kill it, and Ragna realizes that she was determined to protect it. That's when he decides to spare the thing and leaves, advising Litchi to be careful despite being painted a hardened criminal who gives no damns. Something similar happens when Celica is confronted by Nine for leaving to search for their father. Ragna steps up to defend Celica's point of view, despite only having met her days prior. Of course, it leads to a massive beatdown on Ragna's end, but he stood by his beliefs that Celica was in the right. Other than that, Ragna is pretty humble and open when he's around people he likes.

He is considerably calmer and more curious than anything else after having amnesia due to falling into the Cauldron at the end of his timeline in Calamity Trigger. It leads to headaches when he tries to remember something about his life, having difficulty because the sudden loss of his Azure causing chaos within his memories. He has much trouble remembering even his name, but shows the ability to remember things like the appearance of his master, Jubei. He remembers Rachel and hows she acts, despite only having caught a glimpse of her in the crowd. The more important a detail was in his life, the more likely he would remember it. As of where he's arriving from in time, he only remembers his name, the lore of his world, Rachel, Terumi, his master Jubei, and what year it was supposed to be for him. These are all important things to him, and took much work to remember.

He especially has bad blood with Yuuki Terumi, and despite not remembering why he hates the man, he knows that he hates him. The true reason being that Terumi took his brother and sister away from Ragna, burnt down his home, and caused his brother to cut his arm off, leaving him with the dangerous Azure Grimoire as a replacement arm. And it's that Grimoire arm that no longer works and led to Ragna being able to only use one eye and arm. It's people like Terumi, people who wronged him and are complete assholes, that Ragna would never forgive and goes out of his way to kick their ass. Ragna can be a very violent guy, holding grudges like his life depended on it.

But now all he wants are answers. He wants to know who he is, what his past was like, and why he keeps feeling like he has siblings without having memories of it. And he wants to know why he was sent over 90 years into the past. All Ragna wants now were answers more than anything else.

(As a sidenote, Ragna enjoys cooking barbeque and hates ghosts. Ghosts always scared the living hell out of him, to the point that he calls it a childish fear he got over to save face in front of his master. But he definitely didn't.)

FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE:
[Headache.

This was the only thought that bore through the wall of Ragna's thought process as he sat on the ground, trying to grasp the severity of the situation around him. Just a moment ago, he was kicked right in the head for trying to defend someone... and now this. He's in a stupid game.]

What the hell am I even supposed to do? [He plants a hand firmly on his head as he looks around, unfamiliar with the area. The surroundings of the Root Town were nothing like the barren wasteland that was supposed to be Japan. The difference was so great that it was jarring.

Completely unreal.]

Great. Now I'm getting this crappy feeling like I've been through this song and dance already. Oh yeah, I have. [Sigh.] Goddammit.

[Good job, Ragna. You've gone and woken up in a strange and unfamiliar place without any knowledge of where you are again. At least this time the memories were intact. What was left of them anyway.

All it takes is a sigh and a struggle to get to his feet for Ragna to try and stop someone nearby with an attempt firm shoulder grasp.]
Hey, tell me I'm actually dead, because that'll be the best news I've heard all day.

[Because that's a better explanation to all this crap than what Ragna can think of.]

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:
"Great job, Ragna," he started under his breath, hand planted firmly on his forehead. His head arched backwards, Ragna let out such an irritated sigh that it would rival the wind's fury had it not been for the aggravated groan that immediately followed. His temper was rising, and it was of no fault but his own. And that did everything to worsen his already foul mood. Reaching out for his Relic, the map function already open, his green eye scoured the device for some semblance of 'go here to win', but struggled to even discover where he was. Slow turn after slow turn, the mini-map gave small hints as to his location, but Ragna felt trouble catching on to them. After a minute of staring, Ragna let out another, louder, groan.

His eye struggled to grasp the surroundings, consisting of dirt and trees as far as he could see. There was only one feasible conclusion to come by, as much as he hated to admit it. Maybe this was how Celica felt whenever he tried to steal the map from her back home. It would do him some good to understand how she felt.

Ah, who the hell was he kidding? This sucked and he couldn't give a rat's ass how Celica felt. That wasn't going to help him with this situation.

He was lost and he didn't like a damn lick of it.

"You make fun of Celica for not being able to navigate the difference between a map and a five year old's drawing, and now look what happens!" Ragna tossed the Relic on the ground as soon as he uttered those words, hand being placed on his hip after. "Now you can't even tell what direction you're going on this goddamned thing! Freaking karma!"

The temptation to crush the device was great, but it was a strong knowledge that if he did that, he would be worse off, that prevented him from doing it. Instead, Ragna kicked it a good distance in a random direction. After feeling like his anger was slowly lifted, he sighed and began to follow it, hand on his forehead again.

The headache pounding in the back of his head was distracting. It really made everything about the situation twenty times worse, and it did nothing to improve his mood.

"Where the hell am I!?"

PERSONALITY:
Friendly, bubbly, and optimistic, Celica's your typical cheerful heroine. She’s often seen smiling or even giggling, which makes even Ragna find it difficult to scowl all the time. Her selflessness keeps her from being able to avert her eyes away from anything or anyone who may be in trouble, as naive as it may seem to others. She's well aware of the fact that others find it to be silly, but she doesn't care; she can't ignore someone in need, and seeing as how she can use healing magic (which, during her time, she was one of the few, if not the only), she almost feels as though she's obligated to put it to use. Even after a group of hounds under the influence of the Black Beast attack her and Ragna, she heals the wounds that become inflicted by his sword.

In this aspect, she’s pretty motherly and often wants to treat and take care of people. She takes Ragna in and treats his wounds when he collapses in the beginning of the novel, and when he starts getting a headache as some memories came back to him before running into Rachel, she takes care of and heals that as well. Even in the future she eventually becomes the foster mother of him, Jin, and Saya.

As mentioned, she's an optimist, and also a bit of a dreamer. This is shown in the fact that she believes in her father being a good and alive man, even though many others say the opposite. On top of this, however, she also has a dream in which Japan would be restored to its former glory from before its destruction from nuclear weapons that had been used (unsuccessfully) against the Black Beast. She hopes that all the bad things in the area be cleaned up, and that the land, air, and water would once again be beautiful, fresh, and safe. Considering how unsafe the area of Japan is during this time, such a dream really doesn't seem likely. Loving her home though, where her father and mother had met and married, Celica still hopes that the country would one day be restored.

Celica’s extremely determined and persistent, especially when it comes to finding her father. Despite everyone telling her that she shouldn’t due to the large possibility of him being dead or becoming a wanted man. Even her own sister, Nine, is against it and even hates their father. Celica ignores this though and continues to search for him out of concern, and to find out the truth behind his participation in the creation of the Black Beast. This is also largely due to the fact that she cares about her family deeply, since it’s just her, Nine, and her (missing) father.

The journey of finding her father also happens to be a dangerous one, even though she has Ragna and Mitsuyoshi/Jubei by her side. Aside from this though, she really isn’t the most careful person. During Ragna and Celica’s first encounter with Mitsuyoshi, the two fighters begin to engage in battle, to which Celica responds simply by just throwing herself between the two as they charged at each other. While staying at an inn with them, she just leaves and goes out for a walk alone in the middle of the night. When in the Alucards’ home, Celica opens the door of her bedroom without first asking who is even at the door, and when she realizes that it’s Ragna, she just casually invites him inside. He even calls her out on it, saying how she should not invite random guys into her room. Her only response is a giggle as she jokes around mischievously, asking if he is planning on “doing anything to her,” to which Ragna flat out yells and denies. Though she doesn’t mean to be, she can be rather careless or naïve at times.

On that note, Celica also has a tendency to misunderstand some things easily. For example, Ragna points out how normal she is while at the Alucards’, meaning how normal her demeanor is despite all that has been going on. Celica interprets this completely differently though, taking it as him saying that her breasts aren’t big. She even goes as far as to reply by saying how she knows she’s not “as big as her sister,” and how having balance is more important than having a large chest.

Oh, also, she’s terribly directionally-impaired. Even with maps. It’s pretty sad.

FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE:
Ooooh... How strange...

[Standing around in the Root Town she arrived in, Celica just watches the other people walking about. Their weapons, and even clothing, are so different from what she's used to seeing back at home. Sure, plenty of people wore and wielded plenty of peculiar attire and blades, but they differ significantly from the ones she's seeing around in Mac Anu.

She continues to curiously watch for a little while longer, clearly intrigued by this new world, even if she has no idea where exactly it is.]

..Ah.. I should probably start trying to figure that out, shouldn't I? And find Ragna. Hm...

[Glancing around aaaand... she'll go ahead and approach one of the wanderers. Hopefully a friendly one...!]

Um... Excuse me! May I ask you a question?

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:
After a week of being in The World, one would think that Celica would somewhat know her way around places, or at least be able to navigate where she is via the Relic, especially considering how technology similar to it does exist back in her world. On the contrary, however, this is Celica, so of course she has no idea where she is despite all of this. Will she admit it? Nope. Actually, the thought of her being lost hasn't even occurred to her yet.

"Hm... I could have sworn it was this way," she mumbles without any concern as she examines the map on her Relic. At least this is better than a traditional map in the sense that it actually shows where Celica is. Half of the times she has gotten lost before, it's just been due to the fact that she couldn't figure out her own location. Now it's just a matter of making sure that she's actually holding the device right-side-up though.

...Which she isn't.

"There aren't any dots on here, so I guess that means nobody is around this area, huh..?" Pondering about this, she continues walking around and watching her surroundings for any clue that may tell her that she's going the right way. After several more moments, a clue does indeed pop up! ...But one that informs her of quite the opposite.

Celica stares at the familiar-looking area, tilting her head slightly in confusion. "I was just here before, wasn't I?" Her line of vision shifts downward and at the device in her small, pale hand. It's just then that she realizes its orientation, and she lets out a small, embarrassed laugh. "Ah... Whoops."
