character. CHARACTER NAME: Oz Vessalius SERIES: Pandora Hearts CANON POINT: End of chapter 62~ APPEARANCE: Ta~daa! Oz stands at 162cm, with permanently messy hair that has this love/hate-relationship with gravity going on. It resembles Oz in that it is a rather independent creature and cannot be tamed for long; even when attacked with brush and the best intentions it'll go back to its old ways of fluffy chaos within an hour. Oz' figure is normal enough, fit from running around, a bit on the slender side but all things considered he looks like your regular healthy kid. He gets teased for his height but in reality it's not too shabby for a 15 year-old body! Really! Also, he's been stuck in the combination of knee socks, shorts and button-downs for so long that they aren't going to leave him alone any time soon - that's fate for you. DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Adept Rogue, Blade Brandier ↷ Flick Reaper; I've been thinking about this really hard because I didn't want to simply go for the shiniest option available but it just works the best for Oz. The last chapters have shown us that he isn't human, that he really is quite literarily two-faced, both by choice and by nature and I find it therefore fitting. He simply isn't someone who you can approach and expect to get what is on the label and he derives an immense pleasure from keeping that kind of advantage. Additionally, the weapon that belongs to him and the one he can handle with ease is B-Rabbit's Scythe but it's not the weapon he would wish to use. Oz likes knights, in fact, his absolute favourite book series is 'Holy Knights', whose main character is, indeed, a knight. That's a thing that happens and is also real- or as real as a fictional thing within a fictional manga can be. Anyway! Oz has been taught swordplay, is still being taught swordplay during the manga and his profile states that it's one of his strengths despite him lacing actual fighting experience. Which does prove to be a problem but at least it explains the class, I hope. PREVIOUSLY IN HOLYRELIC: N/A
PERSONALITY: Oz is-- an idiot, only not where and when people expect him to be. He appears cheerful, and thoughtless, playful too. A bit ditzy even, as likely to go looking for adventure as to play pranks on the people around him. Nothing of that is a lie, but it's not that easy of course.
Above and beyond everything Oz is distrusting (of people as well as situations) and hurt. It's not that he dislikes contact, or that he prefers to be alone (he doesn't enjoy that at all in fact), but Oz is used to those around him betraying him, so he's learnt not to put weight on their promises. He'll enjoy an outing, will be happy at meeting new people, will rush ahead and try to make the most out of it, but if the situation were to change, the people to attack him, then he'd accept this-- there would be no fright, and no denial, because it's the norm in his eyes.
That he still ventures outside while knowing how dangerous it is shows a lack of care about his own well-being. Oz is arrogant, loud and boisterous at times but he has come to think of his own existence as something bad. He wouldn't back down in a fight, or allow the nearest hoodlum to kill him, but he doesn't treasure his own life; the neglect and the hateful treatment at the hands of his father as well as the betrayals having made him doubt his own worth.
He tries to make up for this by working hard. Learning to the point of exhaustion, protecting his sister to the point of sheltering her, looking after his bets friend without expecting the same in return, Oz just forces too much on himself.
This is also his weak point: Oz might be observant, intelligent, and fast but this stubborn belief that he is bad-- that he is guilty blind-sides him greatly. It makes it difficult for him to form lasting relationships, because, for one, he won't be honest about his fears and insecurities, and, for the other, rarely allow himself to ask for things.
But it's not as if he's beyond redemption: Oz wants to be good, wants to live, he wants to be liked and loved. He can't deal well with affection, it tends to fluster him or leave him floundering for a bit, but he yearns for it and would not reject the chance to be accepted.
All in all, Oz is someone who likes to have fun but doesn't allow himself to just let go, who works hard but doesn't like to be complimented on this. He is a brat who can make people despair because he refuses to play by their rules no matter how well-meant these are, and who sees it as his duty to look after the people close to him, the ones he loves. He is afraid of being rejected again, of being even worse than he already deems himself. He won't act sombre unless forced to, won't be entirely honest if he can help it. Someone who needs to learn quite a few lessons, I'd say.

[ So, the thing is that Oz is pretty much used to random world changes by now. The Abyss is good for these kind of things, as is his own talent to adapt to external changes, no matter how crass.
It all boils down to this: there's a decided lack of shock when Oz wakes up only to realise that he's somewhere new { again, they really can't come up with something new, huh? }, a decided lack of care almost, if you go by the expression on his face. Oz looks dumbfounded, eyes comical wide and mouth open, he looks dumbfounded, too, when he brushes his clothes down and stands up.
He'll go and take a look around..! Or that's what he's planning to do when he's run over by a giant-- armour?? wow, hold it right there, Oz goes and just kind of clings to one of the arms because that seems to be a grand idea ]
Hey Mister, mister~~! [ kind of unwilling shufflestop here, success! ] Mister, I've lost my way and now I don't know where my friends are or how to get back- can you tell me where I am, please? [ and do his eyes seem suddenly bigger? kind of. sparkly?? for a moment there's still hesitation on the other end but: ]
It would be really important Mister, I don't know what I'd do without help and you look strong and brave, like a big brother I can trust!
[ and that? seals the deal, whatever random player #233678 was doing before will have to wait because he seems willing to take a break for Oz . He'd probably demand exp. for this if he knew what these are.
In any case, it seems that the newest addition to The World is at least not the type to fall into hysterics ]
THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:
In a general sense, Oz looks ecstatic today. Or, to stay true to the nature of the word: the player with the blond hair and green eyes combination looks happy. full-stop. period. whatever.
Both is true, somehow, except that it isn't.
Not that it matters, happiness is one of the words lost to technicalities and he's certainly-- hyper enough, curious enough, and Oz isn't unhappy.
He's always wanted adventure and now he has it in spades! Maybe a bit too much of it to be honest, considering that he's stuck in a dungeon and. running out of Restoratives.
It's not the first time and he's been scolded before but he doesn't seem particularly concerned. Doesn't feel particularly concerned- it's a reckless way to live but it comes without restrictions for the most part. It's the kind of life he deserves, he thinks. Maybe that's arrogant? He knows after all that--
but this thought gets cut off as another attack crashes against him, as another monster he can see and believe in but shouldn't, not quite so easily leashes out. It also shouldn't be so easy to just swing at the monster and crash its HP but it is.
Oz' head hurts a bit and he can't remember why fighting is so easy but at least he doesn't have to worry about red eyes overlaying green here, in this place. Instead he worries about the friends he left behind, both shadow and sun and so much more.
There's a clatter as the enemy {is that the word? but it wasn't attacking anything important to Oz} disintegrates. It's not over yet because the next one is already looming over Oz and --
in a general sense, Oz still looks ecstatic if a bit distracted. He's smiling, the corners of his mouth sharp, the line of it stretched thin. The player with the green eyes and blond hair combo is going for his scythe because nothing ever ends this easily.
