character. CHARACTER NAME: Amemiya Taiyou SERIES: Inazuma Eleven GO CANON POINT: Post-game APPEARANCE: Don't stare directly at the sun! Taiyou is fair-skinned, has a thin build, and is a few inches taller than an average 13-year-old though heights are confusing in this series so don't quote me on that. His hair is orange and reaches his shoulders; styled in a way that would remind one of a sun's rays. He has blue eyes. According to one of the seiyuu he would probably be considered attractive in-series. DESIRED CLASS & REASONING: Harvest Cleric. Taiyou had a keshin (or "avatar") in his series, and it was Apollo, the Greek god of the sun and healing. Taiyou is suited to having light-based attacks and healing skills as a result. His fragility can also be transferred from being due to his illness to the general build of his class. He will be initially disappointed by his not being able to fight at the frontline, but would eventually cope.
PERSONALITY: Taiyou is a bright soul, kind and cheerful, zealous and simple-minded, yet at times oddly philosophical. He easily makes friends, and just as easily gets lonely. Unfortunately, Taiyou usually is confined to a hospital room; making him treasure the moments he has company more. Taiyou's warm, docile personality means he is generally someone people want, or at least wouldn't mind, to have around. He's a pure-hearted individual, and doesn't seem to dwell (or even see) the wrong in people. This optimistic mindset of his gives him the drive to be there for those who need more light in their life. If he can't outright make someone feel better, he at least promises to listen if ever they want to share their worries. To an extent, his naivete can even make him wiser: some complicated-sounding problems have simple answers, after all.
Additionally, the boy's very good at bringing people together; it reflects on his ability to lead. His team, Arakumo, displays trust in his decisions as captain for their match against Raimon in the Holy Road semi-finals, even if he was physically absent for all their prior Holy Road matches. Given his enthusiasm for the tournament and the sport as a whole, it's likely he established his being with them with reassuring words, and asking for updates on their training each day. Sometimes they visit, most regularly Taiyou's best friend Sata Tosamaru who is the main goalkeeper of the team. Arakumo only plays according to Fifth Sector's score orders when Taiyou isn't around; the Holy Emperor Ishido Shuuji makes it so that any game with Taiyou in it is played freely. The team is very supportive of Taiyou, and their main focus isn't even on winning--it's that they all, especially Taiyou, have fun.
He develops a close friendship with the main character of the series: Matsukaze Tenma, who Taiyou is described as being alike to by Tenma's best friend, albeit more emotional. Tenma is a special person to Taiyou--because it was when he saw Tenma's plays on TV that his feelings for soccer returned after being disallowed from it for so long. Without exaggeration, it could be said playing against Tenma became Taiyou's reason for living. He thus continued to train despite the disapproval of the medical staff; becoming so skilled that he was called a genius player only seen once in a decade. Despite his skill and later fame, Taiyou still displays good sportsmanship, as seen in his not being bitter in the slightest following Arakumo's loss against Raimon. In fact, he commended Raimon for being so great: the challenging match made him the happiest he had ever been in his life.
Taiyou is content with sharing others' happiness, but can't help feeling jealous now and then. Whenever nobody else is with him, his mind wanders: what his life would be like if he wasn't born with his condition. His biggest weakness though is his choosing to ignore his limitations. Couple this with his degrading health and you've got someone going at suicidal lengths for what his heart is telling him. Willpower can solve just about anything in idealistic stories, so why should his condition be any different? Taiyou doesn't fear death. He does everything with full effort so as to not leave behind any regrets in what might be a short life. In a way, this trait brings out both the best and worst in him. And to be brutally honest, Taiyou would be a hypocrite in this regard; he would remorselessly break his body trying to achieve a goal, but not let anyone else do the same.
His impulsiveness leading to reckless behavior is a problem, but as of his canon point he's been trying to fix it. The road to recovery is long... and dull. So Taiyou's been resisting the urge to play soccer by replacing it with different ways to alleviate his boredom. Of course none of them give him as much joy, but one day he vowed he would return to the football pitch, and he has to be patient in both senses of the word until then.
samples. FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE: [Okay, this strategy if you can even call it that isn't working at all. There's a hint of exasperation in Taiyou's voice as he finally catches up.]
This will only take a second, let me heal you.
[His voice is gentle, but he's not taking no for an answer. He's grabbed your arm, and protest you may--he's not budging until he's closed that wound.]
You shouldn't rush ahead without a plan, you know...
[A sigh, followed by a small sad smile.]
We're a team. If you're going to get into a fight, I don't want you taking all the heat.
THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE: Taiyou wasn't entirely sure how to react to the prospect of having been player-killed. Of course in real life it would unanimously unforgivable to murder an innocent--but this world they were in: it was just a game, right? Nobody really "died" if you "killed" them, so it wasn't as malicious an act as it sounded. Even if Taiyou as a victim felt that sharp pain before blacking out... that wasn't exactly anything new. It wasn't different from his occasional fainting, outside of The World. Plus he felt fine, now. If he still felt terrible that would be another story.
The items he worked hard for were gone though; that was what bothered him more. He wasn't really mad, just confused. Taiyou briefly considered asking for his items back politely, but what were the odds of finding that gang again? He thought for a few minutes, but came up with nothing. They were probably gone by now. He sighed; there really was no point in fretting over spilled milk, was there? He would simply have to start over. At least the experience made him wiser to the tactics of certain players--he noted to be more careful about wandering alone.
