the relic & you.

WELCOME to your new Relic! Relics are the cutting edge of the steampunk-styled Massive Multiplayer Online game, The World. They're very similar to your average smart phone. They're steam-powered by coal, but don't fret-- you don't have to worry about stoking the fires, refilling the coal, or reception! They'll work anywhere within The World and provide a few helpful luxuries, as well as being easy to use with innovative touch screen technology-- present in most modern-day electronics.

As of July 2012, The World now features a network-- CCorp rushed their release and it took some time to get it up and running, but now you can video, audio, and text post to the BBS. There's also a small earpiece that connects to the Relic and provides real-time translations of anything being said in-person-- because there are also language barriers in this game.

Every Player in The World has a Relic in their belt pack upon logging in, and it can be used for any purpose, for any person! Please read the entire manual to understand how to use your Relic to its fullest potential. Each menu detailed below is accessed via a touch button, described to match the ones already on the phone image above.

STATUS: (Maps button in image, with a heart showing HP instead of the interstate symbol.) This is where you can look at your level, any status ailments, and a list of items currently "equipped", with any bonuses/elemental defense bonuses listed below. If you're in a party, a quick slide of your finger over the touch screen will switch to your party members so you can see their info as well. Another swipe will show you a list of achievements earned and still available.

MAP: (Safari button in image, as a compass.) The map feature will show you where you are in any town or field area, and show you where you've traveled in dungeons. (You can use a particular item to show you the entire map in dungeons, as well!) You'll be marked as a dot with an arrow showing you which way you're facing, and there's a compass in the top corner. GMs and party members will also be marked as dots on your map-- GMs are blue and party members are white.

WARP MENU: (Weather icon.) When you near a Chaos Gate, in town or in an area, your Relic will begin beeping and this menu will either come up on its own or you can access it to see which area words you have. This will show you which servers you can access, and which area words are available to you, as well as give you area information. Details would include area level, an image of the area type and weather conditions, area element, and the area objective (Defeat the Boss! -OR- Gather the Symbol Fragments!).

INVENTORY: (Gears icon.) Accessing your inventory is capable only through this menu! When you select an item, it will warp into your hands automatically; there is no other way to access them. No matter the size, items are placed in your inventory by sticking them in the pack on your belt, available to all classes. They will disappear into it and show up in your inventory, accessible any time. If you were to reach into the pack, there is nothing in it and it is physically no larger than it appears. The pack is meant to hold your Relic, where it will re-appear if you lose it or attempt to leave it behind.

FRIENDS LIST: (Speech bubble icon.) Keeps track of the people you've met and exchanged member addresses with, which comes in handy for quick party invites. All players have the mod GMs Kain's ([personal profile] tsunderator), Keane's ([personal profile] yanderator), and Kang's ([personal profile] kuuderator) member addresses from the start, but they will almost always turn down party invites (but they may surprise you!).

PARTY INVITES: (Phone icon.) An important aspect of [community profile] holyrelic-- and really, any MMORPG-- is the party function. For most events/quests dished out by the GMs, there will be a party requirement or they'll at least be much easier to complete with two or more characters. There's strength in numbers, and teamwork is important! After all, you'll be living together and fighting together, it won't hurt to go the extra mile and help each other at the same time. Party invites will work only if both characters are on the same Server, and is instigated through the friends list. If you tap the icon of one contact, a menu will show up where you can view their status or invite them to a party. The party invite will then pop up on their Relic screen, stating who is inviting them with an accept or reject button. There's no room for details, and you'll need to hike it on foot to meet up with them! But at least, once accepted, the map will show you their location. Accessing the party menu will give you the option to create a party and invite multiple people at once, as well as view all of their stats once created.

NOTEPAD: (Pen nib icon.) Need to make a note of where you found some easy access health potions, or can't physically speak? Then the notepad is just for you! Use the touch screen keyboard to enter in whatever needs saving or saying, and voila. Consider it saved and ready to show off.

THE NETWORK: (Lounge icon.) When you select this icon, The World's board will load (resembling a journal friends' list with an image of the user next to it) with a bar across the top giving you the option to start a post of your own via three icons: a camera button, a microphone button, and a pen button for video, audio, and text respectively. Once selected, a post screen will open and give you a couple further options: anonymous posting, a place for personal encryptions and to select filters to specific characters, and the post space itself (which is a blank box to type in for text, or a screen that shows you the video you record/plays back the audio before posting).

What happens if I lose my Relic? What happens to it when I drop my character?

It's literally impossible to lose your Relic! If you set it down on a bench in town and leave, it will re-appear in the small pack on your belt before you know it.

The only time that a Relic is capable of parting from it's owner is when they leave The World. The Relic will show up on the fountain edge where it will be collected by a GM, and all information will be wiped so that the Relic can be recycled for new players. All Relics stolen from the fountain can be tracked by the GMs and the thieves will be dealt a severe punishment.

How do I exchange Member Addresses, for that matter?

To exchange member addresses, you hold up your Relics within a two foot space, and the sensors on the back will exchange the information via wifi (which can't be hacked, stop that!). The names will simultaneously appear in your friends list menu, along with their current status and an option to invite them to a party. All players have the GMs Kain @ [personal profile] tsunderator, Keane @ [personal profile] yanderator, and Kang @ [personal profile] kuuderator's member addresses when they show up in The World.
